“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b)
In stressful times, it can be so easy to overlook that Jesus is here with us. When it feels like things are changing so quickly and we have lost our center of strength, we can forget who is by our side and even pull away from a faith that we no longer feel is there with us. We can become like Peter, denying that Jesus is even here and that we even know him.
But as we follow through with the story of Peter, we see how Jesus asks Peter to feed his sheep, and how he asks Peter if he loves him, and how he tells Peter he will be used to build his church. Peter becomes a Rock of faith and Jesus reminds him and the others disciples before he leaves this earth that he will be with him always.
As you continue with this time of social distancing, take some time each day to reflect on your day and make a point of recognizing where you see Jesus walking alongside with you and your family. Maybe it becomes a special ritual before bedtime for sharing these “God sightings” with each other. Maybe you have seen Jesus show up when you were sharing a special moment of joy and love as you work on a project or make dinner together, maybe it is sharing a laugh or encouraging words with a friend over the phone or through social media, or maybe it was having something you have never tried before, such as new ways of connecting with someone, go well. Friends, Jesus is with us always. Let’s open our eyes to see Jesus’ light and love shining among us in big and small ways each and every day.
