TITLE: Custodian

PURPOSE: The Custodian will provide facilities management for a vibrant ministry. This position will support and supervise custodial care and basic building maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Equipped with a positive attitude, ability to work cooperatively, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Possesses a general knowledge of building maintenance; including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and boiler experience.
  • Must have ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and have a complete mobility in buildings and grounds activities as required to perform this job.
  • Must complete a background check.

    HOURS: Daytime hours (flexible, but primarily between 7am-6pm) negotiable as Part Time (25-30hrs) or Full-Time (40hrs) each week COMPENSATION: Paid Hourly, Dependent upon QualificationsACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to Senior Pastor. For the first year of employment, this position will be evaluated quarterly. After the first year of employment is completed, the position will be reviewed annually.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the church’s mission, purpose, and value statements.
  • Maintain floors (sweep, mop, buff, clean, and wax); dust furniture and equipment; wash walls and windows; and vacuum carpets according to schedule.
  • Maintain clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
  • Request cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Operate heating and cooling equipment according to schedule and instructions.
  • Set-up sanctuary for worship services, including communion rails, and other items.
  • Check with supervisor regularly for special assignments and attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Move furniture, set up tables and chairs for suppers, events and other similar occasions; set up educational areas for regular and special activities as assigned.
  • Prepare facilities for special use as requested by supervisor.
  • Coverage for weddings and funerals is required, with special honorariums for these events.
  • Develop and recommend a plan for major repairs or replacement needs around the church.
  • Discuss best ways to utilize Church volunteers to accomplish needed improvements.FULL TIME ONLY:
  • Maintain attractive grounds, performing basic functions including cutting grass, shoveling snow, and arranging for snow to be removed from the parking lot.
  • Respond to office and ministry service and maintenance requests.
  • Paint and repair facilities and equipment as needed. When necessary, report larger facility problems to Supervisor or Leadership Board Chairperson who will contact outside vendors.
