Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:7)
Good Morning Members and Friends of First United Methodist Church,
One of the greatest challenges in this time of social distancing for our church has been staying connected with people of all generations from the youngest to the oldest. As we are all aware, the way in which people communicate varies widely. Some people use technology like email and video conferencing and others prefer methods like phone and mail.
In an effort to connect with everyone in our church, I will be sending out a weekly “Mid-Week Update from Pastor Sara” via the mail to our folks who do not have email. (Since you are on our email list, you will receive the Mid-Week Update via email.) The Mid-Week Update will be mailed today, so I wanted to share it with you too.
Dear Friends and Members of First United Methodist Church,
At the end of Matthew’s gospel, Jesus reminds his disciples: “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b)
Jesus says this to his disciples after his resurrection as he is getting ready to ascend to heaven to be with God the Father. Jesus knows that this will be hard for his disciples who have gotten used to seeing Jesus face to face every day. In challenging times, it can be hard that we don’t see Jesus face to face. Friends as we live through this uncertain time, may we remember that Jesus’ words are for us too. That Jesus is with us always, no matter what may come.
As we all know, we are living in a season of heightened anxiety where things are changing day by day with the growing concern about COVID-19.
As a church, we are taking significant precautions. In order to keep the congregation informed, I am sending out daily email updates. We realize that you might not be receiving these daily email updates because we do not have an email address for you. If you do have an email address and would like to receive these daily updates, please contact the church office at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 886-4427.
For those who do not use email, I want to make sure that we stay in touch during this unprecedented time. I will be mailing out a weekly update to help keep you informed about what is happening at the church. During this uncertain time, we want to stay in touch our members and those who worship regularly with us.
I want you to be assured that ministry is continuing to happen in the church. Here are a few highlights from this past week:
- The Food Giveaway was held on March 18th. The church gave food away to over 1500 individuals in need, right here in Watertown.
- Your pastors have continued to make pastoral contacts.
- Sandee Cole, our Children’s Coordinator, is putting together activity packets and online resources that children and families can do at home to grow in faith together each week. New activity packets and online resources will be sent out on Fridays and Tuesdays. If you are interested in receiving an activity packet and online resources, please contact the church office at 886-4427.
- We are also starting a new ministry called Calling Friends Ministry. We are looking for volunteers who would be willing and able to call someone in our congregation 1-2 times each week to talk, to listen, and to keep people informed about what’s happening in the church. If you are interested in serving as a Calling Friend or if you know someone who would like to receive a call from a Calling Friend, please contact the church office at 886-4427.
Friends in the coming days, it’s my prayer that we would stay connected to our God and to one another. May we hold fast to Jesus’ comforting words: “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
In Ministry Together,
